Boo!

Riley is practicing her Halloween faces.  She's also practicing her tricks...by pulling out her feeding tube while Daddy was changing her.  The treat was that she took her entire bottle that feeding so the nurse left it out.  She didn't do quite as well with her 3pm feeding, but she'd had a bath in between so was a little sleepy.  She gets one more chance and if she doesn't take her full bottle, they'll have to put her feeding tube back in.

The doctor says we are doing better at managing the fluid around our lungs so he is going to try stopping the diuretic we have been taking to see how we do.  We are both suffering from a bit of reflux which is very common for preemies.  The trap door that separates our stomach from our throat is immature and sometimes doesn't close all the way so our food comes back up and this burns our throat.  Mommy says this happens to our Great Grandma too.  As a preemie, if this happens, we instinctively protect our airway and clamp down.  This scares us and we don't always know what to do next so we freeze and forget to breathe.  Mommy or Daddy have to flick our foot to get us to scream so we clear our throat and start breathing again.  We should outgrow this soon, its all part of learning to eat and pace ourselves.

We both had baths today and put on our matching outfits.  Unfortunately I spit up on mine about 3 minutes after I got dressed.   We were both passed out by the time Mommy and Daddy left for the day.
