Lots of changes for us today. For the first time since we have been alive, we are sleeping on a flat mattress. For the past 10 weeks, our mattress has been on an incline. First, to prevent hospital acquired pneumonia and more recently to help with reflux. But as part of our going home preparations, we have to start sleeping in a bed that mimics our bed at home. This means a flat mattress and no more nests! So far we are doing really well.
In another preparation for going home, we are both moving to straight breast milk 6 times a day without the extra fortifier. We will have a special preemie formula two times a day that gives us the extra calcium, phosphorous and nutrients we missed our last 12 weeks in Mommy's tummy. Research shows that preemies who drink this formula two times a day for their first year of life have better brain development and average 10 points higher IQ. It will also help us sleep longer between feedings which makes Mommy and Daddy happy! It may take us a little while to adjust because plain milk is much thinner so will come out of the bottle a lot quicker.
Nonni and Grandaddy came to visit us today. We have a new cousin Rosanna who was born just a floor down from us on Friday. Mommy and Daddy went to meet her today. We are excited to meet her too! We have lots of cousins we can't wait to meet in the spring once our first flu season is over!
